An AEW star made a rare botch moments ago on this week's edition of AEW Dynamite. He accidentally referred to a former WWE Superstar by his former in-ring name.
Tonight's show featured Will Ospreay taking on Buddy Matthews in the opening contest. This would be a follow-up to the AEW Continental Classic, with Matthews looking to get retribution for his House of Black comrade Brody King who was eliminated from the tournament by Ospreay.
This was a match that had high expectations right from the get-go, seeing as both stars are great performers in the ring. This did not disappoint, as there was no shortage of offense from both men. In the end, The Aerial Assassin came out on top after he hit a Hidden Blade for the win.
Post-match, Will Ospreay asked for a mic as he wished to commend his opponent. He accidentally referred to him as "Buddy Murphy" before quickly switching up and referring to him as Buddy Matthews. Ospreay gave him all the credit and endorsed him as a future notable singles competitor. He also offered his services at any moment he needed someone in his corner.
This was a minor botch, but it was an interesting reference to Buddy's WWE persona, where he shined as a tag team and cruiserweight specialist. With his excellent performance tonight, fans are sure there could be more success awaiting Buddy in 2025.
