A shocker occurred tonight as an AEW tag team defied the odds and captured a major title at Wrestle Dynasty, besting two of the top factions in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. This will be their first time holding the title in six years.
Tonight, The Young Bucks competed in their first match in NJPW since 2019, and it was their first match overall since they dropped their AEW Tag Team titles to Private Party two months ago.
Originally, Great-O-Khan and HENARE of the United Empire were supposed to defend the titles against the EVPs. However, due to the latter's injury, this was relinquished, and Great-O-Khan had to find a new partner.
This ended up being Jeff Cobb. Tetsuya Naito and Hiromu Takahashi of Los Ingobernables de Japon, who won the NJPW World Tag League this year, cashed in their title shots to make this a three-way contest with the vacant titles on the line.
It was a chaotic contest, which was expected of a match of this sort. At a crucial juncture in the match, the AEW stars hit a TK Driver on Great O-Khan for the win.
This will be their first IWGP Tag Team title reign since June 2018 and only their second time capturing the title in their career.
