A hot streak ended tonight after a certain top star in one of Tony Khan's promotions was pinned for the first time in a year and a half. This shocker took place today at Wrestle Dynasty.
Tony Khan and several other company presidents have been holding the International Women's Cup. AEW, ROH, CMLL, and Stardom have representatives in a four-way match with not only the tournament trophy on the line but also a future world title opportunity in any of the four companies.
Willow Nightingale, Athena, represented Tony Khan's promotions, while Persephone and Momo Watanabe represented CMLL and Stardom at the Tokyo Dome in what was a high-action contest. Every woman came out on their own except Watanabe, as she had Thekla at ringside.
This came in handy for her during a crucial juncture in the match. Athena had Willow Nightingale dead to rights after hitting her O-Face finisher, but Thekla pulled the referee out before the three-count.
This momentary distraction was enough for Momo Watanabe to slide into the ring and blindside the ROH Women's World Champion with her baseball bat and hit her with her Peach Sunrise finisher for the win.
This was the first time Athena star had been pinned since July 12, 2023, when she lost to Willow during the Owen Hart Cup Tournament semi-finals.
