Tommy Dreamer recently shared his two cents on why Bryan Danielson was booked to face a former WWE personality in a dream match this week on AEW Dynamite. The latter is none other than Nigel McGuinness.
The American Dragon shared an iconic feud with McGuinness during their time in ROH in the mid and late-2000s. After Jon Moxley's brutal assault on Danielson at All Out 2024 seemingly led to the cancellation of his scheduled AEW World Title defense against Darby Allin at Grand Slam 2024, the former WWE and current All Elite announcer used the opportunity to speak to Tony Khan and secure a match against his long-time rival, set to take place in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
McGuinness, who made his return to the squared circle after a hiatus of over a decade at All In 2024, had his much-anticipated re-match against Bryan Danielson at Dynamite: Grand Slam this Wednesday, with the latter winning the bout via submission. On a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, WWE and ECW veteran Tommy Dreamer confessed to having enjoyed the aforementioned matchup, voicing his appreciation of McGuinness' performance in his first singles match in some time.
He further shared that Danielson had been booked to wrestle the 48-year-old Englishman to produce and present the bout before the Washington native retires, given that 2024 is supposed to be his last year as a full-time competitor.
"I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the story, got the magnitude of the match just by the two of them standing in front of each other. More impressed with Nigel McGuinness that he has, like I said, not had a match in a long, long time, went the distance, I enjoyed the end. At the end of the day, I really truly feel if I could quadruple down on my original thought, this is to get the match down before we say goodbye to Bryan Danielson," said Dreamer. [H/T Wrestling Inc]
Bryan Danielson confronted Jon Moxley at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam
In the main event of Dynamite: Grand Slam, Jon Moxley defeated Darby Allin in a brutal contest to become the number one contender for the AEW World Championship. However, The Purveyor of Violence would soon be attacked from behind by the World Champion Bryan Danielson, who tried to choke out Moxley with a tie until the latter's allies Marina Shafir, Claudio Castagnoli, and PAC showed up to pull The Dragon away.
Danielson sent the new BCC running with an assist from Private Party and Komander. Afterward, he declared war on Moxley and his team and further promised to kick his former stablemates in the head during their upcoming World Title matches at AEW WrestleDream 2024.
It remains to be seen whether Jon Moxley will be the one to end Bryan Danielson's in-ring career in the Tacoma Dome next month.
