Former WWE Superstar Buddy Matthews seemingly subtly teased at parting ways with Malakai Black. The House of Black member sent a message in an exclusive promo after AEW Dynamite.
Buddy Matthews made his AEW debut in 2022 and has been a part of the House of Black faction alongside Malakai Black and Brody King ever since. As far as his singles career goes, Buddy has yet to win a singles title in the promotion. This week on Dynamite, Matthews stepped into the ring against Will Ospreay.
After a highly athletic match, Ospreay defeated Buddy and gave him a pep talk. Will told Matthews that he and Brody King didn't need to follow any leader, implying Malakai Black. After Dynamite went off the air, Buddy addressed his loss against Ospreay in an exclusive promo.
Matthews also dropped a subtle tease at possibly ditching Malakai, saying Will Ospreay's words didn't go to deaf ears:

"2024 is in the books, 2025 is the now, and it's upon us, and I didn't start my 2025 the way I was hoping. Especially leading to Grand Slam in Australia next month, but for years, Will's heard my name, and for years, I've heard Will's. Tonight, these names came together, and Will, even though you put a hiccup in my 2025, your words tonight didn't go to deaf ears," Matthews said.
WWE Hall of Famer wants to work with Malakai Black
WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam, who has performed in AEW several times, expressed his desire to work with Malakai Black.
Speaking on his 1 of a Kind podcast, Van Dam said he's proud of Black and would like to work with him:
“Yeah, he is [awesome]. I really like that dude’s style and his vibe. I like the way that he stands out as being different. I’m a big fan of that, so I don’t know. If I didn’t know any better, I would think RVD might have inspired him at one point. So proud of him without even knowing him. It’d be awesome to work with him.”
Meanwhile, Malakai has yet to wrestle after his last match at AEW Full Gear. Only time will tell what 2025 has in store for the House of Black leader.
