Chris Jericho took the unusual step of addressing his retirement at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door III before his trios match against Samoa Joe, Hook and Katsuyori Shibata. It was something no fan saw coming up at this moment.
The former WWE star is one of the oldest wrestlers on the roster and has been wrestling for over three decades now. He has been instrumental in shaping and guiding some of the brightest stars in the industry and continues to do so.
He teamed up with his protege, Big Bill, and Jeff Cobb to take on Samoa Joe, Hook and Shibata. Before the match started, chants broke out asking him to retire. He immediately took the microphone and in typical Chris Jericho fashion, he said:
"I know you guys don't really want me to retire. Because I'm from Long Island! You love me here, I'm your hometown hero! Thanks guys! Thanks guys!" [H/T - @WrestleTalk_TV on X]
Chris Jericho has a history of giving it back to the fans when it comes to defending himself and fans have seen that happen on numerous occasions in WWE. He did just that once again and this time, he repeated it in AEW. The fans would have no doubt gotten their answer from The Learning Tree and will be mindful of it next time he comes out.
