Cody Rhodes was one of the founding fathers of AEW. With financial support from Tony Khan, he, The Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega laid the groundwork for the promotion.
AEW has now become the second-largest wrestling promotion in the business. The American Nightmare is no longer in the promotion, as he left to return to WWE in 2022.
During an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Cody Rhodes discussed that he didn't like The Young Bucks mentioning that he was the last to sign with AEW. He felt that it weakened his status in the promotion.
“I hated that in The Young Bucks’ book they said I was last to the signing. Because that’s a big thing. Some of the AEW defenders who don’t realize they’re turning people off to their product more than they’re turning people on, that’s one of the things that people always cite ‘Oh, he was last, he wasn’t that big a deal to the origin.’ No, this guy here who’s off camera was the first person to ever meet Tony and he met him in a vetting process for all of us," Rhodes said.
He added:
"So yes, I guess I was the last, and yes, I had different thoughts and it’s not incorrect at all what they said [that I was physically the last person to sign]. Yeah, it’s not incorrect but I was just in on it as well as anybody else. That’s a little thing that when I write my book I get to tell [the story].”
AEW star reveals Cody Rhodes created an unexpected moment on show
Cody Rhodes spent four years in AEW. During his run, he was involved in many storylines and rivalries. One of the stars he crossed paths with was Andrade El Idolo.
In an episode of Dynamite, the two stars went head to head against each other in an Atlanta Street Fight. The fans saw Andrade's manager, Jose The Assistant, run to ringside with a taser to tase the former AEW star but got tased instead.
A fan recalled the moment on X, and Jose responded to the tweet, saying that it was Cody Rhodes' idea to create the infamous segment.
