AEW and WWE fans are reacting in a major way today after Tony Khan made remarks on a potential alliance between the two pro wrestling companies. While some are calling on Triple H to help make it happen, others have dismissed the idea.
All Elite Wrestling has tried to compete with World Wrestling Entertainment since launching in 2019. The two promotions have briefly worked together at times, and both have working relationships with other wrestling organizations, but a "forbidden door" between AEW and WWE seems like a long shot. Khan recently spoke with TJ Jefferson of The Rich Eisen Show, and was asked about a potential supershow down the line.
"I would love if that were possible. I don’t know that it is, but it would be great if it was possible for the fans. I think that would be wonderful, but there are a lot of challenging business things in the world of pro wrestling that I think would make that a very challenging thing to do," Tony Khan said. Despite allegiance to WWE or AEW, many fans reacted to Khan's comments with support for a cross-promotional supershow. A significant number of reactions were in support of potential dream matches, such as Roman Reigns vs. MJF. Furthermore, several fans called on Triple H to get on board. Check out a few of the reactions below:
"Not just AEW vs WWE show but we need all the top promotions involved (NJPW, IMPACT Wrestling , GCW, MLW, NWA, OVW) in a super show that happens every few years like the Olympics. @TonyKhan @TripleH," wrote one fan.
A strong number of replies also took the opportunity to throw shade at the AEW President, which is common on social media these days. Below are a few of those reactions:
"Meaning all the s**t he talked about WWE making it a 'challenge' It won’t happen. WWE needs to stay away from that unsuccessful company. AEW doesn’t deserve to team up with WWE," a fan commented.
"Maybe if he didn’t take 5000 shots at WWE it could’ve been possible. Now forget it," another fan wrote.
AEW confirms Royal Rampage championship implications
All Elite Wrestling will return to Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee for tonight's Dynamite: Blood & Guts special. The third annual Royal Rampage special will also be taped to air on Friday.
The double-ring 20-man Royal Rampage Battle Royal is now official for Friday's episode. It was announced that the winner will receive a shot at the World Championship at Dynamite: Grand Slam on September 25.
Brody King won the inaugural Royal Rampage match in 2022, but later failed to defeat then-Interim World Champion Jon Moxley. Darby Allin won in 2023 but failed to dethrone then-TNT Champion Killswitch.
