Kazuchika Okada reached a new personal milestone tonight at the AEW Worlds End pay-per-view. He won the second edition of the Continental Classic Tournament, which makes him five major tournament winners.
Okada and Will Ospreay have been two of the company's biggest signings in 2024 and have had great individual runs across the year, but they have never fought one-on-one since their days in NJPW.
They both finished the group stages as the second seeds of the Gold and Blue Leagues, respectively. Earlier tonight, Kazuchika Okada beat Ricochet, and Ospreay pinned Kyle Fletcher to book this dream match in the finals, with the Continental Championship on the line.
It was a close match as both competitors knew each other too well. Coming off of matches earlier in the night, both were not at their best, and they had to dig deep to take control of the match. At a point in the bout, The Aerial Assassin went into a frenzy, and this saw a series of near-falls. This sped up things between both men, but Okada smoothly countered him into a Rainmaker for the win.
This marks Kazuchika Okada's fifth major tournament win. He has won the NJPW G1 Climax four times and has now tied Masahiro Chono for the record. He'll begin 2025 in possession of the Continental Championship.
