AEW has seen its fair share of scandals and has hosted several controversial talents in its short history, such as Ric Flair, Jeff Hardy, and CM Punk. The most divisive wrestler among its original cast of stars might be Sammy Guevara, who recently revealed that he isn't leaving anytime soon.

Sammy Guevara is a foundational star in AEW and one of the promotion's 'Four Pillars' alongside MJF, Jack Perry, and Darby Allin. Unfortunately, the 31-year-old was singled out early due to a disturbing statement he'd made about Mercedes Mone (fka Sasha Banks) years before on the independent scene.

Guevara made a public apology and underwent sensitivity training after the comment came to light, but he's landed himself in hot water multiple times since. He recently won the ROH Tag Team Championship alongside Dustin Rhodes and suffered an injury scare earlier this month.

Sammy Guevara has been through a lot this year, and he expressed his gratefulness to fans on the latest episode of his vlog:

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

"Man, what a crazy year. A lot has happened. I went from going for the AEW tag titles with a different partner to winning tag team gold with Dustin Rhodes, and to do it in Texas—a place I wrestled so much on the independents—feels surreal. Some of the same fans who came to those early shows brought old photos from 2015 and 2016. It’s such a trip—it feels like it was yesterday, but it’s been almost ten years."

Despite some fans disliking him due to his controversial past, Sammy maintained that he isn't going anywhere:

"The best of Sammy Guevara is not a chapter closed. It’s the one I’m writing right now. So be on the lookout because there’s a lot more greatness left in me to give. I know it’s gonna p*ss some of y’all motherf**kers off, but I ain’t going nowhere. I ain’t going nowhere." [H/T Ringside News]

Sammy Guevara addresses his recent losing streak in AEW

Despite being the ROH Tag Team Champion and finding a new purpose in AEW, Sammy Guevara has seen plenty of setbacks this year. His most recent loss against Shelton Benjamin continued a singles losing streak that he's maintained for most of 2024.

However, The Spanish God seems to be looking at the bigger picture. Following his loss to Benjamin, he took to X with an optimistic message for his fans:

"There is so much that is greater than us, whatever you believe. So while we get to choose the roads we take, we don’t get to know where they lead. when your plan fails, or your road dead ends, it means a bigger plan is at work. And I’d rather be part of a big plan than a small one. #Destiny," Sammy wrote.

Many fans believe Sammy Guevara has not developed at the rate of his fellow AEW Pillars. The 31-year-old has been tied to Chris Jericho and a revolving door of factions for much of the past five years, but his new partnership with Dustin Rhodes and The Von Erichs could provide a stepping stone for a new direction. Whether The Spanish God can capitalize on the opportunity remains to be seen.
