A current champion is disappointed over not being booked at AEW Forbidden Door. This comes after his challenge has gone unanswered.
Jeff Cobb has been a dominant force in New Japan Pro Wrestling for quite some time and is the reigning NJPW World Television Champion. Cobb is as athletic as he is big and has a penchant for dominating his opponents. Given that he is the current NJPW World Television Champion, he wants to prove himself as a fighting champion.
After his recent title match at NJPW Dominion, Jeff Cobb issued an open challenge for a potential match at AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door. However, no one has answered his challenge yet.
During a recent interview with Steve Fall of Ringside News, Jeff Cobb spoke about his open challenge and said that he didn't want to wait for someone to challenge him, so, he issued his own challenge. He also mentioned that nobody has reached out to answer his challenge:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
"So for me, not liking that situation, I just went ahead and said, ‘You know what? I won’t even let anybody challenge me. I will do the challenging, and if anybody wants a shot, come forward.’ But as of right now, I am not scheduled to be there. Nobody’s reached out, nobody’s, like I said, my DMs are open, you know, my Twitter’s open, my Instagram’s open, Facebook, New Japan 1972, send them a message, they can get it to me."
He continued:
"You can send a nice little card if you want, or a fax. Japan still uses fax machines, so fax it over and I’ll get it, I’ll get it eventually. But like I said, as of now, I am not scheduled to be there, and like I said, I’m not mad about it, I’m not sad about it, I’m not going to cry on the internet saying, ‘Oh, please, please book me.’ No, if I’m not booked, oh well.” [H/T Ringside News]
Tony Khan announced an unexpected AEW Forbidden Door opponent for MJF
This week on AEW Dynamite, MJF competed in his first match since returning to the ring. He defeated Rush in a hard-hitting contest. Following the victory, Friedman was interrupted by Brian Cage and the Gates of Agony who told him that CMLL start Hechicero wanted to face the former AEW World Champion at Forbidden Door.
Later, Tony Khan took to social to confirm that Maxwell Jacob Friedman will face Hechicero at Forbidden Door:
"@The_MJF vs @_ReyHechicero It's official for Forbidden Door live on June 30! MJF has accepted the challenge of Hechicero!"
Check out his tweet here:
This should be a great matchup of styles between Maxwell Jacob Friedman and CMLL star Hechicero.
