A former WWE Superstar has just suffered a major loss at the hands of one of the Death Riders tonight. It happened during the opening day of this year's AEW Continental Classic.

Claudio Castagnoli is the faction's representative for the tournament this year. Last year, he was a win short of making his way to the semi-finals, but this year, he looks to finally complete his goal of becoming the Continental Champion and bringing another title to the faction.

His first hurdle was Ricochet, who was making his tournament debut. The former WWE high-flyer seemed to be the favorite, seeing as he has only been pinned once since signing with AEW and has been in impeccable form lately. However, that did not turn out to be the case.

There was a clear difference in size and power between the two stars, and Claudio used this to his advantage. Despite Ricochet showing great flashes of offense, he was eventually shut down.

After a series of exchanges, Claudio used the ringside barricade to his advantage, incapacitating his opponent and allowing him to hit a brutal clothesline for the win.

Last week, he did the same in his dominant outing against Darby Allin. It is safe to say that the former WWE United States Champion looks to be one of the favorites for the tournament.
