A top AEW star recently talked about his plans outside of the promotion. The star being discussed is Konosuke Takeshita. Takeshita, Trent Beretta, Kyle Fletcher, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Rush are the current members of the Don Callis Family.
The Alpha has been a top star in the Jacksonville-based promotion since his debut in April 2021. After being portrayed as a babyface, he turned heel and joined the Don Callis Family in May 2023. He defeated Tommy Billington on an episode of AEW Collision a couple of weeks ago.
Konosuke Takeshita was announced for the G1 Climax, NJPW's most anticipated tournament. The winner of this competition will be awarded an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship opportunity at the Wrestle Kingdom event.
The 29-year-old star was on the G1 Climax Press Conference and revealed he wants to be a "Strong Style Messiah" and plans to capture the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.
“Trust me, I will become the Strong Style Messiah. After the G1, the IWGP is waiting. It's not just this summer I have my eye on, but everything that belongs to me thereafter,” he said.
AEW star Konosuke Takeshita thinks he is destined to face Kazuchika Okada
The Alpha has already wrestled huge stars like Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, Will Ospreay, and many other stars in stellar matches. Konosuke recently named another veteran he wants to face.
While speaking with Tokyo Sports, the 29-year-old star stated he will face Kazuchika Okada on a big stage.
“I think it's destiny. Even before I came to the US, people had been saying that Takeshita vs Okada was a dream match. While we've walked completely different paths, we're now in the same organization [AEW]. When the time is right, Okada vs Takeshita will happen, and I'd like to make it a match that will attract more attention than it does now and reach wrestling fans around the world.”
Only time will tell if Konokuke Takeshita can win the G1 Climax tournament.
