WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff criticized AEW President Tony Khan for constantly taking jabs at WWE every chance he gets.
In the recent episode of 83 Weeks Podcast, Bischoff said fans want to see Khan take shots at WWE, and when he does, they're going to ride all over it:
"So if you’re a loyal AEW fan and you want to be on that train, you’re going to do what Tony Khan does, and what a lot of top talent do on a weekly basis on social media as well as on their TV show, and you're gonna take shots and bury the competition. That’s where it comes from, and people want to pile on and then they argue about it on social media. That’s where it comes from, in my opinion." (from 57:41 to 58:11)
The Hall of Famer said he took shots at WWE back when he was running WCW as people wanted to see the competition get their end of the bargain. Bischoff said AEW's doing the same by throwing shots to build their name:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
"People want to see WWE get their comeuppance. Talent within AEW, including Tony Khan, are constantly taking shots at WWE in order to build more loyalty within their own brand. Again, not a criticism, but it’s a fact, that’s where it comes from." (from 57:18 to 57:41)
Tony Khan and Eric Bischoff had numerous issues in the past
It's no secret that Tony Khan and Eric Bischoff had their share of differences. Bischoff made several appearances on AEW TV and noticed some of its problems.
Bischoff said Khan tends to boast about his success by appearing in interviews, talking about his AEW plans. Khan doesn't shy away from taking shots at WWE, while Vince McMahon doesn't make media appearances that often.
The former RAW general manager added that by continuously insulting WWE, AEW would eventually lose its spark and divide fans in the long run.
