A female AEW star has been absent from All Elite Wrestling television for a while due to a major health issue. She has now provided another heartbreaking health update.
Maria Kanellis was a popular star in WWE from 2004 to 2010. Over the years, as her gimmick evolved she showed a lot of maturity in her character. After her run with the company ended, she returned to the indies where she continued to work on her craft before making a return to the Stamford-based promotion in 2017.
However, this time, her run didn't last very long and she was released from the company in 2020. Following this, Maria Kanellis returned to ROH and then went on to sign with AEW.
Recently, the former WWE star revealed that she has been dealing with a mass on her adrenal gland and was expected to go under the knife in September. However, she later confirmed that her surgery was postponed to October 24 since she needed to take medication to prevent a heart attack from taking place during surgery.
Today, Maria took to her Instagram account to post a video clip with a life update. This time she said she doesn't know if she will continue working for AEW, as her contract ends soon. She also seemed anxious about her impending surgery and noted that she did not have too many answers at present.
"Update!! Don’t know if it’s cancer. Dont know if it’s genetic. Don’t know if I will be working for AEW. I have zero answers but I have this stick and it will make my kids happy," she wrote.

AEW star Maria Kanellis mentioned her thyroid levels are normal during recent health update
Ever since her health issues began, Maria Kanellis has been providing her fans with periodic updates on her progress. The former WWE star seems to be doing everything she can to get back to her best self.
She recently posted an update on her social media stating that her thyroid levels were normal but her heart rate was still high so the doctors had doubled her heart rate medication.
"I have been getting results back from my doctor, and things are starting to become a little more clear. Got more thyroid results back to see how my thyroid levels were, they're normal, within normal range, so it's a really good sign. My pararthyroid is high and my heart rate wasn't coming down, so they actually had to double my heart rate medication, which is a beta blocker, which makes me feel really lethargic and really tired all the time. And I was also told that I could only do light workouts moving forward just because of the fear of a stroke or having a heart attack, which yes, very scary. So, I'm just trying to remain positive[...]," she said.
We at Sportskeeda wish Maria Kanellis a speedy recovery and hope to see her back to full health soon.
