AEW has been a decent competitor to WWE over the past few years. Last year, The Rock returning to the ring and joining the TKO's Board of Directors was one of the talking points in the industry. While The Final Boss is rumored to appear at RAW's premiere on Netflix next week, one familiar face wants to make a one-off return for a special happening.
Kevin Kelly began his career in 1991 and worked various roles for WWE, ROH, MLW, NJPW, and AEW, including commentator, ring announcer, interviewer, and more. Kevin joined World Wrestling Entertainment in 1996 and was featured in various notable moments in his seven-year run. His relationship with The Rock is still discussed today as their chemistry brought memorable comedic interview segments and Kelly's "Hermie" nickname after The Great One labeled him an "ugly hermaphrodite" one night.
The Voice of Wrestling joined All Elite Wrestling in June 2023 as part of the inaugural Collision commentary team. Kelly was fired from AEW on March 8, 2024, after he accused ROH-AEW announcer Ian Riccaboni of libel and attempting to sabotage his career. In September, Kelly filed a workplace lawsuit along with The Tate Twins. He has also filed a separate lawsuit for monetary damages from AEW and Riccaboni.
After praising Eddy Thorpe following this week's NXT, a fan asked if 2025 will be the year we see Kelly finally return to WWE commentary. The New York City native admitted a return would be fun, and then he was asked if he's a free agent and if he's tried reaching out to the global juggernaut for a play-by-play role amid the ongoing AEW controversy. Kelly said he hasn't reached out, but he'd love to return and make magic with The People's Champion one last time.
A top AEW star just called one of his colleagues 'spoiled' and 'narcissistic' HERE.
"I haven't reached out. Besides @WWE is set with lots of talent behind the microphone. I would love to come back for a one-time interview with @TheRock like we used to do," Kevin Kelly wrote.
Kelly was inducted into the East Coast Wrestling Association's Hall of Fame in 2005. The veteran broadcaster actually held the ECWA Heavyweight Championship for 28 days in 2001 and even teamed with Charlie Haas and Russ Haas as The Connecticut Connection.
