Fans hilariously react after a former WWE Superstar teased returning to the promotion after over four years. The star being discussed is Matt Cardona.

The Indy God worked in the Stamford-based promotion from 2006 until his release in 2020. He made quite the name for himself on the independent scene but is currently sidelined with an injury. He has also made multiple appearances in AEW since 2020. His most recent AEW match happened against Adam Copeland in March 2024.

At the Clash at the Castle Premium Live Event, Chelsea Green accompanied Piper Niven to her match against Bayley for the WWE Women's Championship. After being barred from ringside, Green showed up in a luchador mask.

Recently, Green's spouse Matt Cardona posted a picture with the mask and teased returning to the global sports entertainment juggernaut.

Fans went berserk with the possibility of the former Intercontinental Champion returning to the Stamford-based promotion. Many associated him with Rey Mysterio while others said he could be the leader of LWO. Also, some fans said he could be the first victim of Wyatt 6.

Matt Cardona reflects on his WWE run

The Deathmatch King made a huge name for himself in independent promotions following his release from the global sports entertainment juggernaut.

Speaking with Sportskeeda Wrestling, Matt Cardona said he was grateful for his run in Stamford-based promotion.

"Listen, I am forever grateful for my time in WWE and of course [...] But I knew I couldn't just be Matt Cardona but still be Zack Zyder. I knew I had to do a complete 180 and that's exactly what I did. When I first got released, I didn't know what I was gonna do. I don't care how you define success - money, accolades, happiness, most successful whether you want to count accolades, money, or happiness."

The star is currently sidelined with an injury and is serving as the General Manager of GCW. However, one can never really rule out the possibility of the star returning to his former stomping grounds, especially with the rabbits Triple H has been pulling out of his hat regarding surprise returns.
