A former AEW competitor has recently made a comeback to the ring. He was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago.
El Phantasmo has been one of the most entertaining stars in NJPW in recent years. He has developed a bit of a fan following as well. He has competed in various promotions around the world including in AEW. His last AEW match took place at Forbidden Door when he competed for the vacant TNT Championship.
Sadly, his career took a bit of a hit recently after he announced on social media that the doctors found a "little tumour of cancer" in October. Since then, he has not competed in the ring.
However, during a recent NJPW show, El Phantasmo made a surprise return to the ring and received a massive pop from the fans in attendance. It has since been announced that he will compete for the TV Title at NJPW WrestleKingdom 19.
Former AEW competitor El Phantasmo issued a statement after being diagnosed with cancer
It's always sad when a promising young talent has to battle cancer amid the challenges of being a professional wrestler. El Phantasmo was building a successful career when he got the news. However, he has remained positive in his battle which probably helped him make a comeback.
After he got the news from his doctors, the NJPW star shared the announcement on social media with his fans that he was diagnosed with cancer. He was in good spirits and seemed positive that he would win this battle.
"Just want to get this out of the way so everyone doesn't worry about me. The last 2 week I've had a bunch of scans and tests done, and doctors have found a little tumour of cancer. Things are thankfully happening really fast, but have amazing family, friends and fans by my side, and I'm so grateful to have the support of warriors who have gone through the same thing before, and I look forward to help those going through it next."
