Former champion is not under an AEW contract, Konnan reveals: "Pretty soon you may see him somewhere else"

In a recent interview, Konnan revealed that a former champion is not under an AEW contract. The star in question is El Hijo del Vikingo.

Vikingo currently works for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide where he holds the record for being the longest-reigning AAA Mega champion. He also makes appearances for All Elite Wrestling and its sister promotion ROH. His AEW debut match was against Kenny Omega on the March 22, 2023 edition of Dynamite.

Despite being popular among the All Elite fans, the 27-year-old star isn't a part of Tony Khan's roster yet. Konnan, on Keeping It 100 OFFICIAL, discussed his status with the Jacksonville-based promotion.

Konnan said, "I could not believe after that debut they did absolutely nothing with him. I mean, absolutely nothing except kind of do jobs."

Dave Meltzer added, "Nothing as jobs but I know what you mean in the sense [he wasn't featured] he didn't springboard off it. Part of that is probably because he wasn't under contract. He was sort of an outsider."

Konnan confirmed that Vikingo is not part of the official roster in Tony Khan's company.

Konnan disclosed, "Well, I would've signed him up. So here's the thing, he doesn't work for AEW. He's not under contract with AEW and pretty soon you may see him somewhere else." [0:55 - 1:30]

AEW performer El Hijo del Vikingo suffered an injury during a recent match

El Hijo del Vikingo was in action against Trent Seven on the recent taping of TNA iMPACT. He got injured during the match and had to be stretchered out of the arena. Later, he provided a health update on his Instagram account.

"On Sunday I had a strong blow to my right knee, thank God it did not affect any ligaments or muscles, I have to rest for 5 days while the swelling goes down, then start rehabilitation until I am 100% recovered, I will be out for 15 to 20 days, thanks to @tnawrestling @luchalibreaaa for being attentive, thank you very much, also thanks to everyone who took the time to send me a message, thank you," wrote the Mexican star.

The luchador just returned last month from a seven-month hiatus due to multiple injuries. Luckily, this time he will be out for a shorter period of time and the fans can expect to see him back soon.
