AEW has gotten back several of its injured talents this year, but in a tradeoff, multiple stars have gone on the shelf. Former NWA World Women's Champion Serena Deeb recently hinted that "a number of women" were getting cleared to return as of last week.
Serena Deeb has had her own struggles with injuries throughout her time in All Elite Wrestling. She's currently working her way back up the card after winning her feud with Queen Aminata, but several other female stars are still working to get back on television.
The Jacksonville-based promotion is still missing many of its major stars including Julia Hart, Skye Blue, and Riho, who were all injured earlier this year. Meanwhile, Tay Melo and Ruby Soho have been on maternity leave. In a recent interview with Denise Salcedo, Serena Deeb hinted that multiple stars could be returning soon.
"With the women's division, there were a lot of growing pains with that and the women fighting for their time and fighting for their spots. It's been a team effort. We have also evolved a lot in the way of the women that have come to the company. We have been very blessed to get women like Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter. The division right now couldn't be more incredible. Just last week I saw, I won't namedrop in case they need to be surprises, but there were a number of women there last week that were getting cleared," Deeb said.
Serena further expressed her excitement for AEW's upcoming fifth-anniversary Dynamite in Pittsburgh:
"It's really cool because right now the roster is stacked and it's getting ready to be even more stacked with returning from injury players. We'll keep fighting for our spots and tomorrow, wrestling Britt on the five-year anniversary, it's great full circle moment for me. It's cool to see from four years ago to now. I'm honored to be on the anniversary show." [H/T Fightful]
Britt Baker was terrified that fans wouldn't care about her return to AEW
Dr. Britt Baker returned from a long hiatus at Forbidden Door 2024. The former AEW Women's World Champion was incredibly nervous about stepping out onto the stage, but Tony Khan had some bracing words for the 33-year-old.
Speaking with Sean Ross Sapp, Dr. Baker revealed that she expressed her fears to the All Elite President, who told her it was the "stupidest thing" she'd ever said:
"I was about to throw up," said Baker. "I told Tony [Khan] that I'm gonna throw up. I was in gorilla standing and he's like, 'Why?' And I was like, 'I don't think they're gonna care.' And he's like, 'It's the stupidest thing you've ever said.' I was really really concerned and nervous that the fans are not gonna care at all and I think that's anybody's fear."
Baker is now set to face Serena Deeb at the fifth-anniversary edition of AEW Dynamite. The show will take place in Britt's hometown of Pittsburgh, PA, so the cards seem to be stacked against Deeb. Whether The Professor can pull off an improbable victory remains to be seen.
