A former AEW World Champion is gearing up to make his much-anticipated return on Wednesday Night Dynamite this week. The star being referred to here, Kenny Omega, recently stepped back into the squared circle after recovering from a career-threatening illness.
The Best Bout Machine had announced in December 2023 that he was going on an indefinite hiatus from action owing to what was eventually revealed to have been a severe diverticulitis infection. In spite of this, Omega appeared on the May 1, 2024, episode of AEW Dynamite to confront his former Elite stable-mates and fellow EVPs, The Young Bucks over their assault on Tony Khan. Unfortunately, he was brutally ambushed by The Jackson Brothers and their new allies, Jack Perry and Kazuchika Okada.
The former world champion reportedly underwent surgery sometime later and recovered over the next several months. He finally delighted AEW fans with his unexpected appearance at Worlds End 2024 to award the Continental Title to last year's C2 winner, his old rival Okada himself. Having succeeded in winning his comeback match against Gabe Kidd at Wrestle Dynasty 2025, Kenny Omega is now gearing up to return to AEW Dynamite this week at Clarksville, TN.
Taking to X/Twitter ahead of the Wednesday night show, The Cleaner sent a bold message, seemingly voicing his mission statement in the company moving forward.

AEW's Kenny Omega comments on his comeback opponent
Kenny Omega's battle with Gabe Kidd at Wrestle Dynasty this past Sunday has already received endless praise from wrestling fans and industry experts. The intense and violent bout witnessed fans in the Tokyo Dome audibly rallying behind the budding 27-year-old star, who proudly represented NJPW against the AEW EVP and former IWGP Heavyweight Champion with his valiant efforts at defeating the latter.
Speaking to the media after the match, Omega acknowledged Kidd's performance and spoke about the Bullet Club War Dog member's future in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
"I took on this fight alone. But a new hero has been born. Japan has a star called Gabe. He's young, hungry, passionate, enthusiastic, and ready to give it his all. I think New Japan needs a guy like that right now."
It remains to be seen what Kenny Omega's goals are for his All Elite Wrestling return this week.
