A former WWE Intercontinental and United States Champion took a cheeky dig at current AEW star Danhausen amid his uncertain future with the promotion. The 34-year-old star has not been on TV for months.
The former WWE Intercontinental Champion in question is Matt Cardona (fka Zack Ryder). Cardona is best known for his time in the Stamford-based promotion until his release in 2020. He has been quite active on the independent wrestling scene ever since. Cardona also made multiple appearances on AEW TV in 2020 as well as in 2023.
Cardona seemingly took a dig at Danhausen. The latter has been with Tony Khan's promotion for the past few years but has only wrestled a handful of matches. He has not been on TV in the entirety of 2024 after competing in the battle royal at Worlds End 2023.
It was recently reported that Danhausen's contract is set to expire by the summer of 2025. During his tenure in All Elite Wrestling, the 34-year-old has been one of the top merch sellers as well.

Cardona took to X/Twitter to seemingly take a shot at Kid Gorgeous by asking if he had more matches than action figures in Tony Khan's promotion.
"How many AEW figures has he had compared to matches wrestled?" Cardona wrote.

Danhausen's AEW return was reportedly canceled recently
As mentioned earlier, Danhausen has not been on TV in the year 2024 for any match or even a brief appearance. However, he has been wrestling in multiple independent promotions amid his absence, confirming he is not injured.
It was recently reported that Very Nice Very Evil was expected to make his return earlier this year. However, there were reportedly no creative plans in place for him so his return was stalled.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Danhausen.
