A former WWE writer recently revealed that she got interested in signing with AEW after a conversation with Mercedes Mone. The name is none other than Jen Pepperman.
Mercedes Mone had a great run in WWE, and most of her storylines were handled by Jen Pepperman, who was a senior writer on the company's creative team. The Boss left the company in 2022, and after competing in Japan for a while, she inked a major deal with All Elite Wrestling in March 2024.
Mone's signing also led to the arrival of Jen Pepperman to AEW. Pepperman assumed the role of Vice President of Content Development in the promotion.
On a recent episode of the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Jen Pepperman opened up about joining All Elite Wrestling just weeks after she departed from WWE. She revealed how working with Mercedes Mone was unique, and when the opportunity to collaborate with her again was presented, she took it.
“We just connected in a way creatively. I love the creative process, what I love most about that process is that it’s collaborative. I believe the creative process is the best when it’s collaborative, and Mercedes is a really great collaborator. We work really well together, and I just believe in her so much. The WWE was a really great place for me, I worked with a lot of great people, I have a lot of friends there. I wish them well. But for me, Mercedes and I, our working relationship was unique and special, and it was a chance to continue that journey.” [H/T: Ringside News]
Jen Pepperman further called AEW star Mercedes Mone a pioneer of the pro wrestling industry
On the same episode, Jen Pepperman praised Mercedes Mone and explained how the TBS Champion inspired her. She further claimed that Mone was a special performer and expressed how she didn't know how much talent she possessed when it came to being a professional wrestler.
“It initially started with a conversation with Mercedes. I worked very closely with her at WWE, so it started as this conversation of her having this really great opportunity to come to this really great company and would I have any interest of [sic] coming along with her. First, I have to say I adore Mercedes not only as a talent but as a person. She’s one of those people, she’s just really special. She’s someone that has been a pioneer in this industry. She’s inspiring to me. I think Mercedes doesn’t really know how talented she is.” [H/T: Ringside News]
Mercedes Mone is set to defend her AEW TBS Championship against Britt Baker at AEW All In 2024. It will be interesting to see who walks out of Wembley Stadium with the gold.
