WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff recently said that a current AEW personality should discontinue his in-ring career for one reason. The name in question is none other than Nigel McGuinness.
Last year, Nigel McGuinness joined All Elite Wrestling as a color commentator after being on Ring of Honor's commentary team for a while. He also spent several years as a commentator in WWE's developmental brand, NXT, after retiring from in-ring competition in 2011. At All In 2024, McGuinness returned to the squared circle as part of the Casino Gauntlet Match.
McGuinness will compete in a singles match against Bryan Danielson on Dynamite: Grand Slam 2024 if the latter is cleared to compete. Meanwhile, Eric Bischoff said he didn't want the former ROH World Champion to continue his in-ring career, as he loved him as a color commentator.
On his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff said the following about McGuinness' pro wrestling future:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
"I'm hoping that this is a one-off for Nigel and he gets to put a period at the end of the sentence [in terms of] his in-ring performance because he's so freaking good at color. I would hate to lose him as a color commentator so that we can have him [in the ring]." [H/T: WrestlingInc.]
Eric Bischoff says former WWE personality Nigel McGuinness' future is in commentary
Eric Bischoff also claimed that Nigel McGuinness' future lay in commentary, and he would call him first if he started a pro wrestling company. Bischoff said the following about the former WWE personality's skills on his 83 Weeks podcast:
"His future, in such a big way, is in commentary. Of the current crop [of color commentators], if I was starting a wrestling company tomorrow, Nigel would be one of the first calls I would make." [H/T: WrestlingInc.]
It remains to be seen whether the match between McGuinness and Bryan Danielson ends up happening on Wednesday.
