"From that moment, we just clicked" - Mercedes Mone says Rey Mysterio's mask creator introduced her to Mina Shirakawa 6 years ago

The current AEW TBS Champion, Mercedes Mone described how she got to know Mina Shirakawa through the WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. Mone met Mina through Mysterio's mask and gear maker.

After Mercedes Mone successfully retained her New Japan Strong Women's Championship at the NJPW String Style Evolved event recently, she was interrupted by Mina Shirakawa. Mina challenged Mone to a title match and it was later made official for the Wrestle Dynasty event at the Tokyo Dome on January 5, 2025.

It will be a double title match as Shirakawa also put her RevPro Women's title on the line. Ahead of their match at Wrestle Dynasty, Mercedes recalled her first meeting with Mina in Japan. The CEO revealed that the person who makes the WWE Hall of Famer, Rey Mysterio's mask and gear told her to meet Shirakawa.

In the recent edition of her Mone Mag newsletter, The CEO recalled how she had a Japan tour alongside Mina Shirakawa in 201/2019:

"Now, where do I even start with Mina! When I first touched down in Japan in 2018/2019, Rey Mysterio’s gear maker reached out to me, saying, “You need to meet Mina; she’ll show you around!” And from that moment, we just clicked. Mina was such a sweet soul, and she took me on an amazing tour of Japan, opening her world to me. Mercedes Mone successfully retained her title on AEW Dynamite

While Mercedes Mone is buckling up for the Tokyo Dome event on January 5, 2025, she defended her TBS Championship this past Wednesday on AEW Dynamite. Mone was challenged by Anna Jay in a hard-fought encounter. Nonetheless, The CEO managed to retain her title in the end.

Moreover, Mercedes is currently both the TBS as well as NJPW Strong Women's Champion, she also has an opportunity to become triple Champion by defeating Mina Shirakawa for the RevPro Women's Title. What transpires at the Wrestle Dynasty remains to be seen.
