Wrestling fans have shared their reactions to a former WWE Champion officially becoming a free agent, speculating on the prospect of the star joining AEW. The talent in question is Jinder Mahal.

The Modern Day Maharaja established himself on a global stage during his time in WWE. His second tenure in the company, which had begun in 2016, ended on April 19 this year when the Stamford-based promotion released him. Mahal has already been announced for multiple dates in the independent circuit, where he is set to continue plying his trade under the ring name Raj Dhesi.

Jinder Mahal recently took to X/Twitter to inform his fans that his 90-day non-compete clause was up. The 38-year-old star is thus officially a free agent.

"Hindered no more. 90 days are up 🚨", he wrote.

The post elicited several reactions from fans on X/Twitter, who responded to Mahal and speculated on his pro wrestling future. Among them, a number of users expressed their interest in Raj Dhesi joining AEW and facing former FTW Champion HOOK.

The comments alluded to a controversy that arose earlier this year when Tony Khan insinuated that Mahal was not a deserving World Heavyweight Championship contender, unlike The Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil. Khan pointed to the former WWE Champion's win/loss record after he was booked for a title match against Seth Rollins in January.

Another section of users, however, were less inclined to the idea of Mahal joining All Elite Wrestling, discouraging the latter from making the move.

Jinder Mahal is set to team with an AEW giant on an upcoming show

WWE released Jinder Mahal in April this year. Following the end of his latest run in the sports entertainment juggernaut, the former US Champion is poised to return to competition in the independent scene.

Last month, AAA announced that Mahal, under his new ring name, Raj Dhesi, will team up with All Elite Wrestling star Satnam Singh at TripleMania XXXII on August 17, 2024, in Mexico City, Mexico. The two men will challenge for the AAA Tag Team Titles and will be accompanied by AEW's Director of Business Development, Jeff Jarrett.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Jinder Mahal in the pro wrestling industry.
