The former AEW FTW Champion, "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry, had been off of TV ever since his suspension from the Jacksonville-based promotion months ago. He recently made his New Japan Pro Wrestling debut at the Battle in the Valley event. So, what is his status with Tony Khan's promotion?
At the AEW All In 2023 Pay-Per-View, an incident changed the entire wrestling industry. During his match against Hook, "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry allegedly took a shot at CM Punk by knocking on the windshield of a car and saying, "You know what this is? Real glass! Go cry me a river" live on camera. This resulted in both getting involved in an altercation backstage.
Things allegedly turned ugly as AEW President Tony Khan had to get involved, and Punk lunged at him. Following the incident, the Second City Saint got fired from the Jacksonville-based promotion with cause, whereas Jack Perry got indefinitely suspended for his actions. Following his suspension, Perry completely disappeared from All Elite TV for several months.
Meanwhile, Jungle Boy surprised the wrestling world by making his return to the ring at the most recent NJPW Battle in the Valley event. Perry attacked Shota Umino at ringside and later tore apart his AEW contract to make a statement.
Charlotte Flair to return and wrestle a CURRENT CHAMPION?
While this could mean Jack Perry has quietly left Tony Khan's promotion, he is still listed on the AEW's roster page. Given Tony's partnership with NJPW, this could very well be part of a storyline before Perry eventually makes his return to the Jacksonville-based promotion.
Jungle Boy's suspension was reportedly lifted by AEW months ago
Back in October 2023, a report regarding "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry's suspension emerged. Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that the suspension was lifted but the Jacksonville-based company was in no hurry to bring Perry back:
“After speaking to some people, the belief of those who I have spoken to is that he is no longer on an indefinite suspension, but the company is in no rush to bring him back. The belief among the people I have spoken to is that the longer he is away, the longer it makes distance between himself and that incident with CM Punk. He had also just wrapped up that angle with Hook, so there is no rush to bring him back.” [H/T Ringside News]
Jack Perry has begun his 2024 with a shocking NJPW debut. What is next for the star remains to be seen.
