"He just doesn't sell any tickets" - Jim Cornette slams Tony Khan and AEW for pushing 27-year-old star

Tony Khan just began his sixth year as head booker and overall boss of AEW. The lifelong fan receives constant praise and criticism from around the wrestling world, and one of his biggest detractors is none other than Jim Cornette. The legendary manager just blasted a top roster member, Khan, and the rest of AEW.

Jack Perry grew up as a wrestling fan. The son of late actor Luke Perry began working in the indies in 2015, then joined All Elite Wrestling at the time of launch, making his debut at the inaugural Double or Nothing. He has gone on to become a one-time TNT Champion, one-time FTW Champion, and one-time World Tag Team Champion.

Jungle Boy evolved into The Scapegoat following a 2023 suspension for the infamous backstage altercation with CM Punk. After the suspension, Perry was sent to NJPW to undergo a drastic gimmick change. He returned to the All Elite ring as a full-fledged heel and linked up with The Elite. Despite the significant push, Jim Cornette is not buying Perry's act.

The Louisville Slugger knocked AEW for airing the Punk-Perry fight footage months back while speaking on the latest episode of his Drive-Thru podcast. Cornette also wondered how all of this has made Jack into a star. The veteran then explained why he does not see the 27-year-old as a big draw:

"I don't know how they think he's a star. He's a star in their eyes, in their world. He just doesn't sell any tickets, draw any money, get anybody to watch, or particularly have great matches," Jim Cornette said. [From 06:10 to 06:24]

Perry's last AEW match came at Full Gear on November 23, where he dropped the TNT Championship to Daniel Garcia. He last worked this past Friday at the Wrestle Dynasty event in Tokyo, which was co-promoted by NJPW, AEW, ROH, CMLL, and Stardom. The rising All Elite star was defeated by IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji.
