A former WWE veteran has surprisingly agreed with one of Tony Khan's decisions involving Rey Fénix. This comes following the luchador making several accusations against Khan and his company of late.
The Lucha Brothers contract with AEW was set to expire within this year, but the promotion has decided to add injury time to both their contracts. A few days ago, Penta's time with them officially came to an end. However, in Fénix's case, this could reportedly go on for almost a year.
During a recent edition of his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff surprisingly agreed with Tony Khan's decision to add on injury time to Rey Fénix's contract. He mentioned how this was a contractual obligation, seeing as he had invested money in the star and he could not compete due to injury.
"For the most part, I would agree with Tony. He's got a business to protect, and when you invest a lot of money in talent and the talent isn't able to perform because of an injury, to me, it makes sense that you would add that time." [50:00-50:22]

However, Bischoff felt that keeping them on the shelf and still earning money only keeps wrestlers happy for so long, and eventually they would want to get some action. He believed that it might be better to just release Rey Fénix as he was unhappy.
"It's one thing [to] collect talent like you're collecting action figures, and a lot of the talent will, initially, be optimistic. (...) They're making a lot of money, [and] that's cool for a while. But when you get talent that's really driven to perform. (...) Once that 'At least I'm getting a big check every two weeks' starts wearing off, now you got a lot of unhappy sons of bi***es." Konnan says Tony Khan should use and bury Rey Fénix
Former WCW veteran Konnan also gave his take on the situation, seeing as the Lucha Brothers had to extend their time with the company, with injury time being added to their contracts.
On Keepin' It 100, he put himself in Tony Khan's shoes and talked about how he would rather use the luchadors instead of just letting them wait for their contracts to expire. He would bury them and put other talent over, and then they could just leave when it was time.
"This is what I would do. I would use them. I would bury them. And then they can go when the contract's over. The thing is, he's tacked on time, which is prerogative, because Fenix was injured. But they are still getting paid," Konnan said. [From 4:38 to 5:01]
It remains to be seen how the situation will be resolved, or if Tony Khan will decide to keep things as they are for the remainder of Rey Fénix's contract. But as time passes, the situation may get messier, with fans clamoring for his release.
