An AEW star was recently forced to hang up his boots for good. And now, new details have come to light regarding his retirement.
Ever since the start of his AEW career, Chuck Taylor has been associated with Trent Beretta and Orange Cassidy as they formed the lovable trio called The Best Friends. Together, they stood by each other's side through thick and thin. It looked like their bond would stand the test of time. But, Trent had other ideas.
A few weeks ago, Trent turned on Orange Cassidy and viciously attacked him, turning heel in the process. When he was confronted by Chuck Taylor, Trent attacked him too. The two men competed in a brutal parking lot brawl, where Trent emerged victorious. Later, it was reported that this was Taylor's last match, as he had retired from in-ring competition.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Chuck Taylor injured his knee back in October, and initially, it was believed to be bruised talus and ligament damage. However, when his knee didn't get better even after rehab, doctors discovered the necrosis of the broken ankle with fragments under the cartilage.
"Originally, Taylor injured his knee back in October, believing it to be a bruised talus and ligament damage that could be rehabbed. After rehab, it didn’t get better, and that is where doctors discovered the necrosis of the broken ankle (death of the bone)with fragments underneath the cartilage. This was a similar situation that plagued Superstar Billy Graham and led to his ankle being fused and left him hobbled getting around for the rest of his life."
AEW star Chuck Taylor is still hopeful that he will return to the ring
Chuck Taylor's injury looks quite serious, which is why he had to suddenly call it quits despite being only 38-years-old. Despite the career-ending injury, he is still optimistic.
During the recent edition of Close Up with Renee Paquette, Chuck Taylor mentioned that he would reassess his injury after getting surgery.
“I can get surgery, and once I heal from that, I can hopefully reassess… Maybe it is me hoping. We’ve seen a lot of guys and gals come back from a career-ending injury.” Taylor said. [H/T: EWrestlingNews]
