A former WWE writer believes that there is only one person Sting should face in his final match: The Nature Boy Ric Flair. The name in question is Vince Russo.
On the October 18, 2023, edition of AEW Dynamite, Sting announced that he would be wrapping up his career at the Revolution pay-per-view in 2024. The date and location of the show has yet to be confirmed.
Many suitable candidates could be The Icon's final opponents, such as Darby Allin and Chris Jericho. But Vince Russo believes that there was no way the WWE Hall of Famer would be able to turn down one final dance with Ric Flair. Here's what he had to say on Sportskeeda's Writing with Russo:
"How do you say no? Bro, do you know how hard that would be? For Sting, his relationship with [Ric] Flair and how long he has known him. It wouldn't even be I owe you it would be — he would know he would break Flair's heart. I'm telling you, bro, and like Sting would have every reason in the world not to do it, bro, he's not going to be able to say no. If you're seeing Flair rubbing elbows with Tony Khan and in the same breath, 'I got one more,' that's the one more." [2:08 - 3:00]

Flair had his own retirement match in 2022 when he teamed up with Andrade El Idolo to take on Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal. But he has since hinted that he could compete in another bout.

Sting will receive a gift this week on AEW Dynamite
The 64-year-old made his professional wrestling debut in November 1985, meaning that by the time he wrestles his final match at Revolution 2024, he will have been in the business for nearly 39 years.
The final months of Sting's in-ring career will be treated as something special by the fans and those in All Elite Wrestling. Hence, AEW President Tony Khan will be gifting The Icon something this week on Dynamite.
The gift could be a variety of things, including offering The Icon the chance to choose his final opponent or a lifetime contract with All Elite Wrestling so he can help the next generation of wrestlers. But the only way to find out what the present would be is by catching Dynamite on Wednesday.
Who do you think The Icon's final opponent should be? Let us know in the comments section below.
