AEW originals Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix have been with the company since its inception. The fans recently found out that their contract is expiring soon, sometime between August and September.
Earlier, WrestlePurists reported that the brothers are expected to leave AEW after their contract expires. The report also suggested that the duo could head to WWE.
On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer provided a huge update on Penta and Rey's status ahead of their potential WWE move. He disclosed that the chances of them leaving Tony Khan's company seem pretty high.
"They’re not gone yet, I don’t know exactly when their contract’s up but it certainly does look like they’re looking at leaving," said the veteran journalist.

Meltzer then discussed how he believes WWE should utilize the Mexican talents if they join the promotion.
"...If WWE wants to do something really big with them they should go if the money’s there… We have not seen that smaller Mexican wrestler that doesn’t speak English get that push yet. I’m not impressed with how they’ve pushed Dragon Lee at all and a lot of people are going to look at that one. But Pentagon’s got a lot of charisma." [H/T: Wrestletalk]
AEW star Penta addressed rumors of WWE interest
When the internet found out about The Lucha Brothers' contract expiry, the fans went crazy speculating about their next potential move. Many predicted that they would join the Triple H-led company.
Reacting to the speculations, Penta addressed the rumors of WWE interest during an interview with Lalo Elizarraras in June. He said nobody from WWE reached out to him for a potential signing, but he would surely give it a thought if and when it happened.
This statement was made more than a month ago. So much more has transpired since then and according to the latest reports, the fans might soon get to see the former AEW World Tag Team Champions in WWE.
