AEW star Maria Kanellis had a very tough year due to her medical issues. She has been signed to the promotion as a manager since 2022. So far, she has managed Kingdom, including Mike Bennett & Matt Taven and Griff Garrison & Cole Carter, later in 2023.

The former TNA Knockouts Champion has been suffering from pheochromocytoma, a tumor that grows on the adrenal gland and causes hormonal imbalance. She has been out for a few months because of the condition. Earlier this month, Maria disclosed that her contract was expiring in October.

Last month, Maria Kanellis gave a massive update regarding her health complications. The 42-year-old star stated that she would need surgery, which was scheduled for October 24. She also explained that she could have a heart attack if she hadn't taken medication before.

Recently, her husband, Mike Bennett, gave a positive update on her health. He tweeted that the 'surgery went well' and that she will be discharged from the hospital very soon. He also thanked everyone who prayed for them.

Maria’s surgery went well. She is staying overnight at the hospital for observation and should be released tomorrow. My wife is a bad**s. Thank you to everyone who’s reached out. We love y’all so very much," he wrote.

Maria Kanellis slams back at a fan who accused her of 'badmouthing' AEW

The 42-year-old star recently revealed she is ready to take offers from independent promotions and hinted at AEW exit. A fan on social media criticized her for being inactive during her contract due to injuries.

Responding to the fan, Maria Kanellis explained that she was never sidelined due to injuries and even worked during the pandemic era.

"I haven't said anything. My contract is coming up. I am proactive with my career. I am worried about my surgery and need to plan. I have never taken time off for injuries. Never in 20 years. (...) Don’t question my work ethic. Maybe your anger should be towards the people that just don’t show up," he wrote.

It remains to be seen if AEW will renew her contract, as it is days away from expiring.
