WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan recently recalled fans bashing him for his comments about Adam Copeland. The Rated R Superstar is currently out of action due to an injury.
Adam Copeland defended his TNT Championship in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage against Malakai Black at AEW Double or Nothing. During the match, Copeland jumped off the cage on Black and landed on his feet, resulting in Copeland breaking his tibia. Despite that, The Rated R Superstar managed to finish the match and successfully retained his title.
In an exclusive chat with Sportskeeda's Bill Apter, Hulk Hogan shared his thoughts on Adam Copeland's risky dive at Double or Nothing.
"Every time they go for a crazy move, I cringe. I love Edge [Adam Copeland] to death and Edge was over like crazy but I hate to see one move end that brilliant streak he was on." [00:06-00:22]
The Hulkster further stated that Copeland did not need to do the move as he was already over with the crowd. Hogan also recalled the backlash he received for calling Adam Copeland's eventual return after his neck injury.
"You know, the last time he hurt his neck and retired from wrestling, I said, 'He'll be back; he's got wrestling in his blood.' I basically got cussed out by the fans on the internet like,' Hogan, you are heartless, you are a no-good SOB, He is really hurt.' I said, 'I know he is really hurt, but he will be back.' 'Oh, you're a hater, Hulk. You don't know sh*t.' But they came unglued on me, but he came back. So don't be surprised if he comes back again." [00:39-1:18]
What did Adam Copeland think before diving off the cage at AEW Double or Nothing?
Adam Copeland dove from the cage on Malakai Black and suffered a brutal leg injury. The Rated R Superstar confirmed that he's set to miss a couple of months of action from All Elite Wrestling.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, the former TNT Champion revealed what he thought before jumping on Malakai Black from the cage. Copeland stated that his biggest concern was about Malakai Black's safety who was lying on a table wrapped in Barbed Wire.
“My biggest concern when I got up there was, ‘How do I not crush him?” said Copeland. “I didn’t even consider getting injured. My take was if I jumped to the side, landed on my feet, and hit him with my arm but not my body, then the table would break just because of the sheer height. It happened exactly how I planned it,” Copeland said. [H/T - Sports Illustrauted]
The WWE Hall of Famer was stripped of the TNT Championship after Double or Nothing PPV event. It will be interesting to see if the Rated R Superstar chases the title after his return.
