Mercedes Mone recently competed in a match outside AEW. However, she was so overcome with emotions that she broke down backstage before the bout.
After leaving WWE, Mercedes Mone first made an appearance in NJPW and attacked Kairi Sane. She then defeated the now-WWE star for the IWGP Women's Championship at NJPW Battle in the Valley 2023. She was then about to make history by becoming the first-ever NJPW Strong Women's Champion but she suffered a severe injury in the match and lost to Willow Nightingale.
This injury put her out of action for several months. Recently, Mone returned to the same venue where she suffered her injury to defend her NJPW Strong Women's Championship at Strong Style Evolved against Hazuki. The CEO won the match but was overcome with emotions before the bout.
In a recent edition of her Mone Mag newsletter, Mercedes Mone explained that returning to the same venue where she got injured brought up a lot of emotions and she couldn't control herself once she got to the arena:
Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE
"As I prepared for this match, I found myself overwhelmed with emotions, especially returning to a venue that had once been a pivotal point in my career—a place that almost saw the end of my journey in wrestling. I knew I needed to clear my mind and shake off any lingering negativity, so I took the time to meditate and pray. But as I arrived at the arena, the floodgates opened; I was hit with tears and nausea I was so sick. To top it all off, I had just started my period, and it happened to be a full moon. Talk about a perfect storm of emotions!" [H/T Mone Mag]
Mercedes Mone has her sights set on becoming a triple-champion
Mercedes Mone has dominated the ring since her return from injury. She won the TBS Championship and then became a double champion at Forbidden Door when she also won the NJPW Strong Women's Championship. However, it appears that this is not enough as The CEO has her sights set on another title.
Recently, Athena crossed the two-year mark of her reign as ROH Women's Champion. Amid this historic achievement, The CEO reacted to her milestone with an intriguing emoji indicating that she has her eyes on the ROH Women's Champion. This comes after Athena teased the possibility of a match against Mone.
It will be interesting to see when Mercedes Mone and Athena will finally cross paths in the ring.
