AEW has been trying to build up many stars in the past several months. Several talents have also tried to reinvent their gimmicks to remain at the top of their game. One of them is Toni Storm, who has been presenting a unique gimmick to the fans in AEW.
A couple of weeks ago on AEW Dynamite, Toni Storm made her shocking return to the company. The return came after she announced her kayfabe retirement while she was still 'Timeless' Toni Storm. However, since her return to the company, Storm has been acting like a new talent who has amnesia and doesn't remember anything from the past three years.
During a recent edition of Sportskeeda's exclusive The Wrestling Outlaws podcast with Dr. Chris Featherstone, Vince Russo praised Toni Storm for taking chances by changing her character. He appreciated Storm's desire to leave a super-over character like Timeless Toni Storm and introduce a new gimmick to the fans in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
"I thought she was great, bro. I thought she was freaking absolutely great. But I tell you what I like about this, Chris, and it's kind of dangerous, This really shows me something when she had a character that was so over and it's almost like now she wants to challenge herself and go out and see if she can do. I respect that. Now, you know, we had a long talk with Al about this today, you know, and Chris, it's almost like if you got a character that's super over, but they want to try something else, you have to respect that." Konnan shares his honest thoughts on Toni Storm's new AEW gimmick
Toni Storm is currently on a path to reinvent her character after her successful run as Timeless Toni Storm. However, WCW veteran Konnan claims that Storm should've stuck with her 'Timeless' persona.
In a recent edition of the Keepin' It 100 podcast, Konnan said that Timeless Toni Storm was one of the most interesting characters in the Jacksonville-based promotion. The veteran further stated that he doesn't like the new character of the former Women's Champion.
"They've been subpar at that (in developing Toni Storm's story). For example, I don't know if it was Collision I was watching and Toni Storm came back as this giddy stupid chick that was like, 'Oh I can't believe I'm in AEW'. There's Mark Briscoe, and she's just geeking out over him... She was one of the most interesting characters and she showed dimension. And she wasn't just one-dimensional. That was working out pretty good. Why didn't she stay with that? I don't like this thing," said Konnan. [From 1:54 to 2:55]
It will be interesting to see what's next for Toni Storm after her successful 'debut' at Worlds End PPV.
