Sting is one of the most recognized wrestlers on the planet and he is loved by fans throughout the world. He recently announced that he signed a new deal with AEW.
The WWE Hall of Famer joined the company in 2020 and was active along with Darby Allin during his time there. He wrestled in a lot of tag team matches and he also won the AEW World Tag Team Championship towards the end of his career.
The Icon recently announced that he signed a new deal with the Tony Khan-led company. He disclosed those details while speaking on the Kayfabe Friends podcast.
"I signed a multi-year deal with AEW, obviously not to wrestle anymore, but it’s like a licensing deal, a legends deal if you want to call it that. So, I’ll do appearances with them on and off, depending on what they want and all. I’ve done real estate, I did real estate before I ever was a pro wrestler, so, I’ve always loved real estate," Sting said. [H/T Fightful]
A WWE Hall of Famer isn't a John Cena fan. More details HERE
The deal is just a licensing deal with him being able to make a few sporadic appearances here and there. However, he won't be wrestling as he mentioned on the podcast. However, The Stinger can still be seen on the AEW website as a member of the roster. It will be interesting to see if there is more to it than what meets the eye.
WWE Hall of Famer Sting reveals Vince McMahon wanted him to retire under his umbrella
Sting shocked the entire world when he showed up in WWE in 2014. However, he was only limited to a few matches before he had to retire for the first time.
The Icon left WWE for AEW and had a good run there. The 65-year-old legend recently revealed how Vince McMahon wanted him to retire under his umbrella but the former was not ready to hang up his boots just yet. While speaking on the Kayfabe Friends podcast, The Icon said:
"I did leave it open-ended pretty much. I didn't wanna retire at that time. It was kind of a mutual deal with WWE at that time. Vince (McMahon) wanted me to retire under his umbrella. And at that time I was okay with that."
In hindsight, that turned out to be a great decision as Sting got the chance to go to AEW and retire under his own terms earlier this year.
