Thunder Rosa seemingly had major heat with some of the AEW women's roster in 2022. Things got so bad that she was accused of hiding in the bathroom after an incident with Jamie Hayter, but the former AEW Women's World Champion has now set the record straight.
Thunder Rosa won the AEW Women's World Championship in March 2022, but nagging injuries cut her reign short. Her final defense before vacating the title was against Jamie Hayter at Battle of the Belts III. During that match, Rosa accidentally broke Hayter's nose, and the champion allegedly could not be found backstage afterward.
Rumors spread that La Mera Mera was hiding from the roster in the bathroom after the match, but Thunder Rosa recently debunked that claim. Speaking to Tim Rivera, she noted how devastating the rumors were but revealed that she was being treated by AEW's doctor while others were looking for her:
"It was a disaster afterward. People came after me, and rumors started spreading that I was hiding from people in AEW or whatever. But I wasn’t hiding. I literally broke my back and was getting treatment with the doctors. I even went and did the cold plunge, but I couldn’t move. It was rough. Everything just went downhill," she shared. Bully Ray claims Tony Khan didn't care about Thunder Rosa's recent storyline
Thunder Rosa was out of action for more than a year due to injury, but fans got behind her once again after her comeback. However, La Mera Mera hasn't been able to reach the top of the mountain since her return.
Rosa challenged Mariah May for the AEW Women's World Championship at Worlds End, and the company crafted an emotionally charged storyline for the Mexican star. However, she came up short in the end.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray criticized the way the angle played out, accusing Tony Khan of being disinterested in the storyline:
"Tony Khan doesn't care about that story. If you're gonna use the dad and the dad's sickness as a part of the storyline, yes– you should be telling that on your dominant show of 'Dynamite.' That is a story we can all relate to: a sick family member. [...] And it's very easy to tell that story," Ray said.
The women of AEW will have their very own Casino Gauntlet match on Dynamite this week. Kris Statlander has been confirmed as the first entrant. Whether Thunder Rosa enters for another shot at the Women's title remains to be seen.
