"It’s happening" - Veteran predicts Sting will reunite with WWE Hall of Famer after 2 decades in his last hurrah [Exclusive]

Could Sting reunite with one of his oldest rivals for his retirement match?
Could Sting reunite with one of his oldest rivals for his retirement match?

Sting's retirement match is happening sooner than fans think, but who could he possibly take on in his Swan Song? Recently, a WWE veteran speculated that The Vigilante's final match would undoubtedly include Ric Flair.

Across his career, The Icon has clashed with many top stars in the industry. His days in WCW put him on the level of names such as The Undertaker, but his best opponent has arguably always been The Nature Boy.

During a recent episode of Sportskeeda's Writing with Russo, the veteran proposed that Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal would be the final opponents of Sting, who will team up with Ric Flair.

"You’ve got Tony Khan, and two of the greatest workers in the history of the business [Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal]. Yes, it’s happening. It’s gonna be the old surprise partner gimmick! It’s already booked! It’s already agreed upon!" (04:20 onward).

Vince Russo believes that Sting will try and return the favor to Ric Flair

The Nature Boy is a legend of the industry, but today, he's considered far past his prime by many, which makes this hypothetical reunion concerning. Continuing in the same episode, Vince Russo explained why he believes the match will ultimately happen.

"Would Ric Flair ever put out that ‘I got one more match in me’ if he thought it wasn’t going to happen? (…) Who do you think Steve Borden thinks made a young Sting? It’s returning the favor."
"Think about this: you got Flair and you got Sting. Bro, you got a show drawing 600,000 people? Like to them, is it really gonna matter? And then of course bro, you got [Jeff] Jarrett the workhorse." (06:11 onward).

The Icon's final match will likely be a massive event next year and might just mirror The Great Muta's retirement. Dave Meltzer claims he reached out to Tony Khan to suggest this, but it remains to be seen if Khan considered the suggestion.
