Tony Khan has made many major booking decisions as CEO of AEW. However, one of those decisions has come under scrutiny lately.
During his time as President of AEW Khan has proved to be a big fan of tournaments. There are two that the company organizes annually, the Owen Hart Foundation and the Continental Classic Tournaments. The latter is similar to NJPW's G1 Climax Tournament. However, not all of these decisions have been well received and wrestling veteran Konnan had his say in the matter.
Speaking on his Keepin' It 100 Official podcast, Konnan stated that the Continental Classic was a meaningless tournament for another championship that no one cared about. He also took a dig at the company for having too many tournaments and title belts.
"It's just another meaningless belt nobody cares about....or tournament in a place that's full of belts and tournaments. I agree 100 percent with what you said," he said. [1:29 - 1:46]

Since launching AEW in 2019, Tony Khan has taken many steps to ensure his company can compete with the industry leader, WWE. He has added more shows and expanded the roster, as well as signed a successful broadcast deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. Additionally, he has also hosted PPVs on foreign soil with All In taking place in London for the past two years. The company will also host an upcoming show in Australia.
Bully Ray also criticized Tony Khan's booking decision
Tony Khan has come under severe scrutiny over the past year by fans and critics over several of his booking decisions. Whether it's random title matches with a lack of storytelling or meaningless tournaments, Khan can't seem to escape the ire of the fans who want the company to succeed.
During a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray said that many of Tony's decisions don't make sense to him but noted that they probably did to the AEW boss.
"I get so many tweets asking me, 'Bubba, why are they doing this?' I don't know. I don't have the answers to these questions because I don't understand — I don't get the mentality. We will never understand the way Tony goes about things because of the way we were brought up in the wrestling business," he said.
It will be interesting to see who will win the Continental Classic Tournament this year, with the winner being crowned at AEW Worlds End on December 28.
