AEW referee Aubrey Edwards recently sent a heartfelt message to her husband. She signed with the promotion in September 2019.
Aubrey Edwards has been a key figure in All Elite Wrestling after debuting as the company's first full-time female referee in 2019. Edwards also serves as a project coordinator for the promotion and is the co-host of AEW Unrestricted with commentator Tony Schiavone. The female referee recently took to social media to send a special birthday message to her husband.
On Instagram, Aubrey Edwards showed appreciation for her husband, Dante Smythe while wishing him a happy "birthaversary".
"Happy birthaversary. One year older for you, and one more year stumbling through life together. If there’s anyone I’d choose to shatter my childhood memories through wrestling, it’s you. Photos by @arealgoldmouth for @gritcitywrestling at @bumbershoot."
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray is not a fan of AEW referees
In June, Jack Perry wrestled Dustin Rhodes for a spot in the TNT Championship Ladder match at Forbidden Door. WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray pointed out a major issue with the match on his Busted Open Podcast.
Bully Ray claimed that the referees don't do their jobs and don't add realism to the matches. The veteran slammed Aubrey Edwards and questioned her role as a referee.
"I don't know why AEW feels the need to have referees in some of these matches, because they just don't do their jobs, I liked the match, I didn't like the referee. Guy is out on the floor, no count, punches in the corner no count. I mean is it that difficult to do your job? Is it that difficult to be the law and order in the ring? Is it that difficult to count to ten when a guy's on the floor? Or count to five when guys are in the ropes or in the corner?"
It will be interesting to see if All Elite Wrestling takes notes from WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray regarding the issue.
