Fans wildly reacted after Carmelo Hayes referred to CM Punk's AEW drama on social media. The Second City Saint was fired from the Jacksonville-based promotion after his brawl with Jack Perry at All In 2023. Punk choked The Scapegoat backstage and the incident has become a running gag in pro wrestling.
Things were getting heated on WWE SmackDown as Survivor Series: WarGames is just around the corner. Backstage on tonight's show, Carmelo Hayes deliberately took a shot at Cody Rhodes. The American Nightmare did not let it slide and confronted Melo. Things got heated between the two as they shoved each other before the SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis intervened.
Moments later, the former NXT Champion claimed on X (fka Twitter) that the former AEW World Champion advised him never to lose a backstage fight again.
"Ran into Cm Punk. Just gave me the best advice to never lose a backstage fight again #SmackDown," he wrote.
This was a clear jab at CM Punk's backstage incident in AEW. Fans immediately tagged Jack Perry and asked him for his opinion on the tweet.
CM Punk breaks the silence of the All In incident
The Voice of the Voiceless returned to WWE in November last year during the Survivor Series: Wargames Premium Live Event. He has since talked about his time in AEW during many interviews. Back in April 2024, he shared the story of the infamous 'Real Glass Incident' at All In which led to his departure from the company.
While speaking on MMA Hour, Punk revealed that he didn't punch anyone just 'choked somebody' and former WWE Superstar Samoa Joe also witnessed the incident.
"I didn't punch anyone. I just chocked somebody. Samoa Joe was there," he said.
Carmelo Hayes and Cody Rhodes will be squaring off next week on WWE SmackDown to settle their recent argument, while Punk will be teaming up with the Roman Reigns' Bloodline at Survivor Series: WarGames.
