AEW has a loaded roster that includes several polarizing pro wrestlers. Jim Cornette is known to rant, rave, and review the All Elite product, with brutal shots fired often at names like Tony Khan and Kenny Omega. Cornette is now opening up on his past with a few key AEW names, and his revelations may surprise some.
The Young Bucks began their careers in the early 2000s and went on to find success in NJPW, TNA, ROH, PWG, and several other promotions. Tony Khan came calling in 2018 to launch AEW the following year, and they later returned to Ring of Honor after Khan's 2022 acquisition. Before that, The Bucks worked off-and-on for ROH between 2009 and 2018.
Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson left ROH after several months to join TNA in early 2010, but the brothers asked to be released amid controversy in mid-2011. The Bucks then returned to ROH in September 2011 for a run that lasted until late 2018. At the time, Cornette was employed as Executive Producer, working directly under head booker Hunter Johnston, aka Delirious.
The Louisville Loudmouth has made dozens of viral tirades about All Elite Wrestling, its owner and Executive Vice Presidents, and various talents. He's infamously labeled The Bucks as The Hardly Boyz or Balding Buck (aka Nick) and Buck Hogan (aka Matt). Speaking on the latest edition of Jim Cornette's Drive-Thru, the legendary manager blasted the current IWGP Tag Team Champions for their attitudes.
Charlotte Flair to return and wrestle a CURRENT CHAMPION?
"The guys are childish in more ways than one. They've always had a f***ing attitude, hence the name of their book 'Killing The Business,' because everybody told them their s**t would kill the business, and well lookie-here," Jim Cornette said. [From 3:08 to 3:22]
Cornette later detailed how frustrating The Bucks' return to ROH was in 2011, recalling how they pulled an in-ring stunt when asked to work a serious match without the gymnastics. The 63-year-old went on about Matt and Nick and why he thinks they have rotten attitudes.
"But they've always had bad attitudes unless they're allowed to do whatever they want, and go home whenever they want, and get their music and their friends jobs, and their wife can do the f***ing merchandise, or whatever. Rotten attitudes," Jim Cornette said. [From 7:17 to 7:34]
Cornette noted how Matt and Nick Jackson were making $500 each per show for the Sinclair-owned ROH back then. The Young Bucks are three-time ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions and three-time ROH World Tag Team Champions. Their third reign with the trios titles came after Khan's acquisition.
The Young Bucks returning to AEW as champions
The Young Bucks are once again NJPW champions. The AEW EVPs became two-time IWGP Tag Team Champions by defeating United Empire and Los Ingobernables de Japón in a three-way for the vacant titles at Sunday's Wrestle Dynasty event, which was co-promoted by NJPW, AEW, ROH, CMLL, and Stardom.
Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson spoke backstage at the Tokyo Dome in Japan after Saturday's big win and indicated they are bringing the titles back to AEW Dynamite. The brothers have not wrestled for AEW since dropping the World Tag Team Championship to Private Party on October 30.
The Bucks previously held the IWGP Tag Team Championship for 113 days. Their first reign began on June 9, 2018, after a win over other members of Los Ingobernables de Japón, but they were dethroned by The Bloodline's Guerrillas of Destiny on September 30, 2018.
