A popular AEW star is currently locked into his contract. Jim Cornette wants the AEW boss to release him from his deal.
The situation surrounding Rey Fenix's contract has gotten out of hand in recent weeks. The Lucha Bros. were once a hugely popular tag team in AEW and featured almost every week. Rey Fenix was also considered to be one of the future faces of the company. However, their lackluster booking in recent months has led fans to believe that the duo could leave AEW and join WWE once their contracts expired.
While the rumor held true in the case of Penta El Zero Miedo, who is currently a free agent, the same can't be said about Rey Fenix. The 33-year-old star is still under contract with All Elite Wrestling since Tony Khan tacked injury time onto his deal. As a result, he is stuck in the Jacksonville-based promotion for the next few months. Fenix made a splash recently by hinting that he was mistreated by his employer. He has since deleted those tweets but has still garnered a lot of sympathy from the industry.
On a recent edition of The Experience, Jim Cornette said that he has to be sympathetic to Rey Fenix in this case, even though he doesn't want to be. He also said that the luchador is no longer valuable to Khan, so he should just release him from his contract.
A former WWE writer just went after JBL for his comments HERE
"We haven't seen him in ages but a lot of time people just come and go to the point where you know I got to be sympathetic with talent here even though I don't like them. I think they're the s**ts and their matches are all the same but I'm sympathetic to the talent in this instance that he f***ing vanished them a long time ago, and they were in and out, and after for a period of time, we couldn't get rid of them, and just they're not that valuable to him anymore to begin with so why not let them f***ing go?" Dutch Mantell criticized AEW star Rey Fenix for his "inhumane treatment" comment
Rey Fenix's downfall in AEW has been quite shocking as he was once considered to be a future megastar. He had the charisma and the in-ring skills to be a big star in the company, but it looks like management may have lost faith in him. Despite this, the company has delayed his departure. Hence, the AEW star took to social media to hint that he was being subject to "inhumane treatment," which didn't sit right with one wrestling veteran.
Speaking on his Story Time with Dutch Mantell podcast, the former WWE manager said that Rey Fenix was on the receiving end of special treatment since he was being paid the same amount of money to sit at home and spend time with his family. He further claimed that such allegations won't hold up in court as the jury won't see it the same way.
"If he went to court with this inhumane treatment, you know what that jury would do? The jury would say, if my job sent me home and I'm making the same money being at home as to being there, that to me is not inhumane. That is special treatment. And nobody understands that at all. I don't get it. Even in Mexico, if they're gonna pay you that money and you're gonna stay home and be with your family and do whatever you want, they won't get it either. But, I think it kinda turns him heel a little bit." [54:30 - 55:30]
It will be interesting to see when Tony Khan will release Rey Fenix from his contract.
