AEW's tag team division has lagged behind in the last couple of years, especially in comparison to the promotion's early days. However, legendary commentator Jim Ross has an idea that could revitalize it, and it involves bringing Christian Cage and Adam Copeland back together.
Copeland and Cage, known to WWE fans as Edge and Christian, are a legendary duo that found unprecedented success in the sports entertainment juggernaut. The two were seven-time WWE Tag Team Champions and provided many memorable moments for fans during the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression eras.
It seemed the two would reunite as a tag team when Adam Copeland joined AEW last year. However, Christian wasn't interested, and they ended up in a bitter feud instead. On the latest episode of Grilling JR, Jim Ross claimed that if the real-life best friends join hands once again, they could add a spark to All Elite Wrestling's tag team division:
"Yeah, there’s always a chance. I would be for it because I know their natural chemistry is amazing. I’ve seen them at their best, and tags at this stage of their career, not a bad idea. If you want to put some spark and some sizzle in your tag team division, that ain’t a bad way to start," Ross said. [H/T Fightful]
Adam Copeland and Christian Cage are still united outside AEW
While Christian Cage leads the villainous Patriarchy in AEW, he's remained a good friend to Adam Copeland outside the ring. The two have found success in a business venture together, and Copeland recently claimed that it may have saved both their careers.
The Rated-R Superstar and The Patriarch joined forces to launch Pure Plank, an exercise device centered around planking. Copeland recently revealed to Fox News that the venture may have led them both back into the ring after their initial retirements:
"What I think it did is it got our careers back, and that, to me, is the biggest thing. I was retired for nine years. Jay was retired for seven years. And we found ourselves both back in the ring. It was the gateway I like to think. Starting the planking was the gateway to getting the diet back in check, to feeling better, to having more energy, to just waking up and feeling like you want to conquer the day instead of letting the day conquer you," Adam Copeland said.
Adam Copeland has been out of action since fracturing his tibia at this year's AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view. However, he could return very soon, and with Christian Cage's Patriarchy as strong as ever, The Rated-R Superstar could have a major challenge ahead of him.
