Current AEW World Champion Jon Moxley seemingly asked a promoter to pay his rival more money for their match a few years ago. Renowned wrestling promoter Brett Lauderdale recently confirmed the same.

In 2021, Jon Moxley squared off against one of his biggest rivals on the independent circuit, Nick Gage, under the GCW banner. Moxley and Gage have had several matches against each other. The 44-year-old also wrestled on AEW Dynamite in 2021, losing to Chris Jericho.

Recently, Nick Gage revealed that Moxley once asked an independent wrestling promoter to pay him more after learning about the difference in their earnings. Meanwhile, GCW's Brett Lauderdale took to X/Twitter to confirm the story.

"I will now make a shocking revelation: Yes, I was paying Jon Moxley - a major TV star of nearly a decade, a world champion, and the hottest wrestler in the industry more money than I was paying Nick Gage for their match in GCW."

Lauderdale wrote that he indeed increased Gage's payment on Moxley's request in Game Changer Wrestling.

"Yes, at Mox's request I did end up increasing Nick's pay for the match, to an amount equal to what he was paid to wrestle Chris Jericho on television. Not that any of you actually care about Nick, but he is my brother of 20+ years and that will never change," Lauderdale revealed.

Jon Moxley is set to defend his AEW World Title at Full Gear

Since winning the AEW World Championship from Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream 2024, Jon Moxley hasn't defended the gold. However, that is set to change soon. Orange Cassidy challenged The Deathrider for the title on Dynamite this week. Later, Moxley accepted the challenge, and the match was made official for Full Gear.

The match announcement from All Elite Wrestling also highlighted that the future of the company would be at stake on November 23. It remains to be seen who walks out of Full Gear as champion.
