Former WWE and AEW World Champion Jon Moxley recently discussed the challenges he faced after rehab and how it completely differed from what he was told.
Jon Moxley is one of the biggest names in professional wrestling today, having competed in numerous top companies worldwide. He has been the heart and soul of AEW ever since his debut in 2019. Moreover, the Blackpool Combat Club member has emerged as one of the most reliable performers and locker room leaders in the Tony Khan-led organization.
Despite enjoying immense success inside the ring, Moxley struggled with alcohol addiction and had to undergo rehab to address his health issues. He was away from pro wrestling from November 2021 to January 2022.
During his recent interview with The Messenger, Moxley reflected on how his life was challenging even after rehab and how the process differed from what was written in the self-help books.
"I would love to give you like a positive, self-help book-type answer or something about f—ing sunshine and rainbows and fairies and sh–, but that's really not reality. You f— up your brain chemistry. It takes a lot of time for your body and the physical damage you've done to yourself to regulate itself." [H/T WrestlingINC]
Since his return from rehab in January 2022, The Purveyor of Violence has been in incredible shape, delivering memorable performances inside the squared circle. It is safe to say that Moxley made the right decision to undergo rehab since it helped improve his quality of life.
Jon Moxley set to return to action after a minor concussion
At the 2023 Grand Slam edition of Dynamite, Jon Moxley defended his AEW International championship against Rey Fenix. Unfortunately, the former WWE star suffered a minor concussion during the bout, and Fenix was crowned the champion after an alleged last-minute decision.
The Purveyor of Violence has been away from in-ring action since his title loss. However, he recently returned to aid his BCC stablemates on Collision. He is set to lock horns with Great-O-Khan at NJPW Power Struggle on November 4, 2023.
Moxley also had an altercation with AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy upon his return. This could eventually lead to a high-profile title contest between the two stars.
