Kenny Omega will make his in-ring return on AEW Dynamite for the first time in over a year this week at Maximum Carnage. The former World Champion received a warning from his opponent, Brian Cage, a day ahead of their imminent showdown.
The Best Bout Machine returned to the squared circle at Wrestle Dynasty 2025, defeating budding NJPW star Gabe Kidd in a much-acclaimed match. He appeared on Dynamite last week to address his recovery from career-threatening diverticulitis and opened up on his desire to prove his mettle in the ring on a weekly basis.
However, Omega would be interrupted by his former treacherous manager, Don Callis. The former AEW World Champion promptly gave chase to The Invisible Hand and showered blows on him until the latter's "family" members, including Kyle Fletcher, Lance Archer, and Brian Cage, arrived to make the save for him. The Machine, in particular, dealt a heavy blow to The Cleaner's gut and was poised to hit him with another maneuver until Omega's former rival, Will Ospreay, saved him.
A singles match between Kenny Omega and Brian Cage was announced shortly after for AEW Dynamite: Maximum Carnage. With around a day left ahead of the first-time-ever singles bout, the former ROH World TV Champion sent a message to the All Elite EVP on X/Twitter, laden with references to The Terminator franchise.
"This Wednesday, a dream match comes to fruition. Judgment day for the Cleaner has arrived. I've been self aware this day would come, and now it's time to set myself up for the future. "The future's not set. There's no fate but what we make for ourselves", and that's exactly what I'm going to do "That Terminator is out there! It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear". #aewdyanmite #maximumcarnage #themachine Vs. #thebestboutmachine," Cage wrote.

Notably, Cage was involved in Omega's last Dynamite match - a multi-person Street Fight - in November 2023.
What transpired with Kenny Omega after AEW Dynamite went off the air?
After saving Kenny Omega from The Don Callis Family last week on Dynamite, Will Ospreay had a tense stare-down and an inaudible exchange of words with the "God of Professional Wrestling" to close the show.
After the program went off the air, Omega cut another heart-felt promo reflecting on his return and his goal of being at the forefront of the industry's evolution and growth.
It remains to be seen whether the 41-year-old will be victorious against Brian Cage this Wednesday.
