AEW fans have missed Kenny Omega throughout 2024, but he could be on his way back to television soon. The Best Bout Machine was recently spotted in an intense training session with Kota Ibushi in Japan, and it seems that he's now wrapped that up.
Omega hasn't wrestled since December of last year, although he did take a bump when The Elite attacked him in May, earlier this year. The Cleaner underwent a surgical procedure for diverticulitis a few months ago, and it's been a long road to recovery.
The former AEW World Champion was recently shown to be training in Japan with his longtime friends, Kota Ibushi and Michael Nakazawa. This was a promising sign for fans, and Ibushi's most recent Instagram post has provided even more hope that Kenny will be back in action soon.
"The last practice is over! I've been able to push hard this time. I'm ready for AEW, which will be coming soon. I still have to fulfill my promise to Japan! I hope the landscape has changed! Now we just have to do it! Thank you for the flexible contract even though we both belong‼️ Well, there were a few NGs, but basically, I'm grateful when I'm in Japan," wrote Ibushi. Kenny Omega gets physical with legendary Final Fantasy composer
Few fans expected that the first wrestling hold Kenny Omega endured after his diverticulitis surgery would come at the hands of a legendary music composer, but that's exactly what happened this weekend.
Omega has been enjoying his most recent trip to Japan, where he's trained with Kota Ibushi, collaborated with video game developers, met up with his old rival Hiroshi Tanahashi, and attended the 2024 Tokyo Game Show convention.
It was at TGS 2024 that he met Final Fantasy's composer, Nobuo Uematsu. Shockingly, the legendary artist locked Kenny in a Cobra Twist submission. This is what Omega had to say after the incident:
"I never imagined that the first wrestling move I received after my major surgery was the legendary Uematsu's Cobra Twist! His technique was perfect, and there was no escaping it. I had no choice but to give up in order to avoid ending my career," Omega wrote on X. [Translated from Japanese]
Kenny Omega has plenty of unfinished business when he returns to AEW TV, including putting a stop to The Elite's rampage. Whether The Best Bout Machine can recruit some help to face his former friends remains to be seen.
