"SWERVE!"
Kofi Kingston is Swerve Strickland's one of the biggest inspirations
After his win at Dynasty, Swerve Strickland attended the post-show media scrum. During the presser, he mentioned his friend Kofi Kingston. He stated the latter has been one of his biggest inspirations for the last five years.
"Friends of mine. Seeing friends like my friend, Kofi. The last five years, that’s probably like one of the biggest inspirational things you’ve ever seen, not just in Black history, but wrestling history, period. That’s like that's motivating. That’s inspiring. And that makes me want it like, I want to do that for the next generation, you know. Like I don’t want to just do it once, I want to do it multiple times," he said.
Kofi is an inspiration to many pro wrestlers of African heritage in the industry. He became the first African-born WWE Champion in history after defeating Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 in 2019.
He has been in the wrestling business since the mid-2000s. He is part of The New Day faction. In his almost two-decade-long career, he has added many accolades under his belt.
He is a one-time WWE Champion, four-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, three-time WWE United States Champion, six-time Raw Tag Team Champion, seven-time WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champion, and one-time NXT Tag Team Champion.
